There is so much to see in Doha, Qatar, here are some of our    art and Civilization highlights…

1The Fire Station Gallery, Doha

A flourishing art scene may not be. So I had been curious to understand that work and writers and artists have come together in a converted fire station in Doha to meet collectively.

On this cultural tour of Doha, my very first trip was on the Fire Station Gallery. Because it was hosting the first exhibition of it’s kind in the Middle East, I surfaced to check it out. The display show cased the works of Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti. This is particularly important since it follows a bigger exhibition in Paris. The pieces are on loan in the Musée National Picasso, Fondation Giacometti and other collections to Qatar.  Additionally, the exhibition is free and runs until 21st May 2017.
The central courtyard of the Fire Station Gallery is magnificent. It’s fountains great symmetry and a copper wallsocket.
There is also a book shop and an art supply store for people. You can stop for a light snack at Cafe 999 in the Fire station: http://www.firestation.org.qa/999-cafe. Their menu includes camel burgers. Yum!

2The Museum of Islamic Art, Doha

My second stop was at the The Museum.   The building and its surroundings are as important as what’s inside. The architect responsible for the design of the construction is I. M. Pei who’s 91 years old. It has several other vital facets that are applicable in layout, arches and water characteristics.

The grand entry to the museum with its striking fountain.

There is also a great view of the Doha skyline through the arches. It is probably among the most photographed places in Doha!

It is the first time I seen a museum of Islamic art. I discovered that the artefacts intriguing and amazing. It’s tough to explain how big this collection is since it spreads over 1400 decades. And has  objects from Ottoman, Mongolian and Persian empires. You will need to invest here to view everything.   It is truly an experience. Go see for yourself.
