Novel Ideas for Your Holiday Reading List

It’s finally here! I am on holiday in Canada for the initial break annually. It is a great time to get away, together with children back in college and prices going down following the summer time. I looking forward to catching up on some Zzzzz having some down time and really having the time to get stuck into a book that is good! Fortunately has shared some excellent recommendations. Here are our top choices!

The Long Haul Flight/All-Nighter
Harry Potter & The Cursed Child by JK Rowling
Yes, Pottermania has struck once again and JK Rowling has delivered yet another belter of a publication. Prepare for more magic, puzzle and all of your old favorites (we always loved Ron best). Great for a flight or, if you have switched time zones and can’t get to sleep, change into your PJs and pull and like old days.

The Globetrotter
Us by David Nicholls
Another funny and charming book from the author of One Day. Connie and Douglas Petersen’s marriage is in crisis that their son is leaving home. In a last ditch attempt to save their relationship Douglas books a vacation. (If you are inter-railing this Autumn this is a must-read!)

The Weekend Getaway
Salmon Fishing at the Yemen by Paul Torday
Perfect for some light reading, this book had us thoroughly entertained. Composed of fictional emails and letters, this really is a feel-good story. It is going to capture your imagination book, line and sinker. Now a movie starring divine and Ewan McGregor to the dishy Emily Blunt!

The Tear Jerker
After Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
This strong and poignant biography taken to the Peak of the New York Bestsellers List earlier this year. In the age on the verge of completing a decade’s training for a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with lung cancer. This book, published shortly after his death will leave you mesmerized.

The Future Traditional
Proceed Set a Watchman by Harper Lee
This much anticipated sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird has been around our reading list for quite a while. Undoubtedly Move Set a Watchman, a future classic was written in the 1950s before To Kill a Mockingbird, but not published until the discovery of this manuscript last year. Do not leave it it’s time to rediscover your favourite Maycomb characters.

The Thought Provoker
To be able to Live by Yeonmi Park
Human Rights activist Yeonmi Park tells the harrowing story of her journey into freedom after fleeing North Korea with her mum when she was 13 years old. This book is one that’s guaranteed to stay with 23, if you are seeking a read then.

The Check-in Baggage
The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton
It’s a rather substantial publication, but well worth packaging (if you can squeeze it in your luggage that is…). A Man Booker Prize winner is essentially mid-nineteenth century fiction, and there is a dose of mystery and ghost story in there also. NB: Certainly much more easy to manage this one!

The Blockbuster
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald
In case you’ve not yet read this please go and purchase a copy promptly. It is our all-time favorite read and it is less than 150 pages! There’s no excuse not to see this beauty of a book before you see the movie. Time to escape into the glamour and glitz of 1920s America…

The Daily Devotional
Symmetry Breakfast by Michael Zee
What it says on the tin. This fascinating book is sure to keep you on your game day when it concerns the most important meal of the day. Are not long and relaxing breakfasts what holidays are made for?
